| I have painted for almost as long as I can remember. As a child and teenager, I happily spent my Saturdays painting at the Art Institute of Chicago. Even then, I loved painting from the many costumed models that sat for us. Other models, I noticed were behind closed doors, and I didn’t encounter them until my college classes. While raising my five children, I painted at night on canvas and on paper, and while teaching, first philosophy and mathematics, then art and gifted children, I painted mostly in my head. Now, I am fortunate to be able to paint from life, and love every second of it. Most of my work is done en plein air or engaged with a model or still life. I am constantly dazzled by the beauty of the world and its people, and my goal as an artist is to record and share my responses with you, the viewer. I want to be able to show you colors in our world that you were not aware of until you look again after viewing my paintings. I want to splash color onto my paper until, magically, a painting appears that we can share. The mysteries and transparencies of watercolor paint never cease to delight me. I love color and use lots of it, but don’t use a lot of paint in general –only enough to create the magical illusion that is art. I have studied art at UIC, Triton College, Northeastern Illinois University, the American Academy and in workshops locally, nationally and internationally. I also study art in books, magazines and in the work of artists I admire. I have a Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I teach a local watercolor class and participate in several local artist groups. I am an artist member of The Art Center Highland Park, The Figurative Art League, the North Shore Art League, Deer Path Art League, and The Lakes Region Watercolor Guild. I have exhibited my paintings locally and nationally.
